Synecdoche, New York
Charlie Kaufman’s latest offering Synecdoche, New York may well have already been and gone in the US box offices without more than a passing whimper, but nevertheless, it is a film that has got me particularly excited.
Having narrowly missed seeing the film in the States while visiting there, the film is now scheduled for UK release on May 15th, so I thought I would share a few reasons why I particularly looking forward to this release.
I’ll make no denials, I am a huge Charlie Kaufman fan – the acclaimed screenwriter of films such as Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, Human Nature, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Most of which feature on my list of favourite films of all time.
Kaufman has an uncanny ability to write thoughtful, complex, and emotive pieces, based on his own struggles to make sense of the world around him and his place within it. He often puts himself at the centre of his works, focussing on the inner turmoil of the character.
